DOJ Clears Google’s $32 Billion Acquisition of Cybersecurity Firm Wiz
Alphabet's Google has cleared a critical regulatory hurdle in its $32 billion acquisition of cybersecurity company Wiz. The US Department of Justice concluded its antitrust review without objections, as confirmed by an October 24 filing on the Federal Trade Commission's website.
The deal, announced in March 2025, represents Google's largest acquisition to date—surpassing its $12.5 billion Motorola Mobility purchase and $5.4 billion Mandiant buyout. Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport noted that while DOJ scrutiny has ended, other antitrust regulators continue examining the transaction.
Industry observers view the acquisition as a strategic move to bolster Google Cloud's competitive position against Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services. The DOJ's six-month investigation focused on potential anti-competitive effects in cloud computing and cybersecurity markets.
